God is more interested in making us more like Him than anything else. He desires to mold us into His nature and character so when people see us they see Him.
That godly nature is called love. Love, not as man has portrayed it but love the way God intended it to be. This kind of love only comes from God.
Scripture says, “Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. 8But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8
I Corinthians 13 puts more premium on love than spiritual gifts. If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
You can’t be full of the spirit and full of carnality at the same time.
“For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?” I Corinthians 3:3-4
The work of the Holy Spirit is to develop the character of God in us… the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Spiritual maturity is not measured by spiritual gifts but by the fruit of the spirit.
